8 Movies Coming to Theaters from TCM Big Screen Classics & Fathom Events in 2019

Mark your calendars for the rest of 2019 with screenings for 8 classic films coming to theaters from Fathom Events as part of the TCM Big Screen Classics Series.

Each of these classic film screenings is accompanied by commentary from TCM hosts to give you extra information about the films.

Glory – July 21 & July 24

Edward Zwick’s 1989 film starring Matthew Broderick and Denzel Washington about the Civil War’s first all-black volunteer company won three Academy Awards.

Best Actor in a Supporting Role – Denzel Washington, Best Cinematography – Freddie Francis, and Best Sound – Donald O. Mitchell, Gregg Rudloff, Elliot Tyson, and Russemm Williams II.

Hello, Dolly! – August 11th & August 14th

It’s the 50th anniversary of Hello, Dolly! directed by Gene Kelly and starring Barbra Streisand, Walter Matthau, and Michael Crawford.

Hello, Dolly! won three Academy Awards. Best Art Direction-Set Decoration – John DeCuir, Jack Martin Smith, Herman A. Blumenthal, Walter M. Scott, Geroge James Hopkins, and Raphael Bretton, Best Sound – Jack Solomon and Murray Spivack, and Best Music, Score of the Musical Picture (Original or Adaptation) Lennie Hayton and Lionel Newman.

Lawrence of Arabia – September 1st & September 4th

David Lean’s 1962 epic starring Peter O’Toole, Alec Guinness, and Anthony Quinn won 7 Academy Awards.

Best Picture – Sam Spiegal, Best Director – David Lean, Best Cinematography (Color) – Freddie Young, Best Art Direction-Set Decoration (Color) – John Box, John Stoll, and Dario Simoni, Best Sound – John Cox, Best Film Editing – Anne V. Coates, and Best Music Score (Substantially original) – Maurice Jarre.

The Shawshank Redemption – September 22nd, September 24th, & September 25th

Director Frank Darabont’s masterpiece The Shawshank Redemption starring Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman debuted 25th years ago. It was nominated for 7 Academy Awards.

Alien – October 13th, October 15th, and Oct 16th

It’s the 40th anniversary of Ridley Scott’s sci-fi classic Alien starring Sigourney Weaver, Tom Skerritt, and John Hurt.

Alien won the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects – H.R. Giger, Carlo Rambaldi, Brian Johnson, Nick Allder, and Dennis Ayling.

The Godfather Part II – November 10th, November 12th, & November 13th

Al Pacino, Robert Duvall, Diane Keaton, Robert De Niro, and John Cazale are just a few of the stars in Francis Ford Coppola’s 1974 classic The Godfather Part II.

The Godfather Part II won 6 Academy Awards. Best Picture – Francis Ford Coppola, Gray Frederickson, Fred Roos, Best Director – Francis Ford Coppola, Best Actor in a Supporting Role – Robert De Niro, Best Adapted Screenplay – Francis Ford Coppola and Mario Puzo, Best Art Direction-Set Decoration – Dean Tavoularis, Angelo P. Graham, George R. Nelson, and Best Original Dramatic Score – Nino Rota, Carmine Coppola.

When Harry Met Sally… – December 1st & December 3rd

It’s hard to believe but When Harry Met Sally… came out 30 years ago. This comedy classic starring Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan was nominated for Best Original Screenplay (Nora Ephron).

Meet Me in St. Louis – December 8th & December 11th

This 1944 classic directed by Vincent Minnelli starred Judy Garland, Margaret O’Brien, and Mary Astor. It was nominated for 4 Academy Awards.
